This call out is open to professional artists, curators, and arts organisations. Proposals for solo, two person, or group shows are welcome. While it is not a requirement, priority will be given to applicants who live, work in, or are originally from the administrative area of Cork County Council. The closing date is 5pm Friday 7th June 2024. READ MORE   BEALTAINE FESTIVAL IN COUNTY CORK bEALTAINE This year Cork County Library and Arts Services has a range of creative activities to celebrate Bealtaine, the festival that celebrates creativity as we age. Highlights include; Storytelling, Creative Writing, Down Memory Lane Music Cafés, Regency Style Dancing, Heritage Workshops, Exhibitions and Film Screenings FULL PROGRAMME   LHQ GALLERY THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED Anna G On 10th May, photographer Anna Groniecka’s exhibition ‘The Road Less Travelled’ will open at 6pm in LHQ Gallery, Library Building, Cork County Hall. Over the last year the Clonakilty-based artist has photographed people across the county who contribute to culture and community development. The exhibition includes 21 portraits and will run from 10th to 31st May.  AFRICA DAY 2024 african Drumming Image courtesy of African Drumming Ireland Celebrate Africa Day with Cork County Library and Arts Service. Every year Africa Day falls on the 25th of May, commemorating the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963. It is enjoyed across Ireland through a range of events that promote the different cultures and heritage of all African countries. Highlights from our programme include; African Drumming Workshops, Face-Painting, Food, Dancing and Art Competitions. FULL PROGRAMME   Creative Places West Cork Islands laureate Laureate na nÓg, Whole Wide World Tour The “Try It” community skill sharing workshops are ongoing on Sherkin and Bere Islands throughout May. Contact for more information. Laureate na nÓg the Children’s Book Festival took place in April and was facilitated on Sherkin island with invited families from Oileán Chléire. A great day was had in the spring sunshine. With thanks to Sherkin Island Development Society for hosting the group.  In April there was also gathering of musicians from Sherkin Island, who travelled to Oileán Chléire for a night of sharing and song in what proved to be the beginning of an inter-island initiative we hope will extend across the West Cork Islands. READ MORE   VISUAL ARTISTS CAFE AND TALKS VAI Artist Cafe Poster Image Credit:  Aleks Photography On the 15th of May on the top floor of County Hall there will be an in person artists’ cafe for County Cork based artists and artists based in Munster. Presentations, idea exchange and arts show and tell featuring artists Sean Lynch, Chris Finnegan, Julia Pallone, Paul Gaffney, and craft worker Annemarie Reinhold. The event is free for Cork based artists. BOOK NOW   Local Opportunities 2024 DEARCÁN BURSARY dearcan Applications are open for the 2024 Dearcán Bursary. Supported by Cork County Council and South Cork Local Enterprise Office, the award includes a stipend of €10,000, 12 months of workspace, and full access to Benchspace’s professional manufacturing equipment. All artists, craftspeople, and product designers living in the Cork County administrative area can apply.
