National Biodiversity Week Starts Tomorrow! Over 270 Free Events Nationwide! Explore the rich variety of life in Ireland this May with a host of wonderful events and activities for the whole family. From workshops and walks, exhibitions, competitions and talks. Below we’ve outlined what’s happening for the week, and also a snapshot of some of the IEN team’s favourite events for the week! Find an event in your county or search by topic on our events calendar here: https://biodiversityweek.ie/events-calendar/ Photo Competition We are holding our 12th annual Biodiversity Photographer of the Year competition! We are looking for photos that celebrate Ireland’s rich web of life. Open to all amateur photographers, with prizes of up to €500, this competition is always one of the highlights for us at the IEN. We can’t wait to see what you find this May! We are delighted to once again be collaborating with Fair Seas Ireland who are sponsoring the Ocean Category! Are you a scuba diver or a beach walker? We’d love to see what wildlife you can find in our marine habitat. Deadline for submissions is May 31st, so get snapping! Full details for the competition can be viewed here. Backyard Bioblitz Explore your garden, your park, your local mountain trails, your beaches, and show us what you find! Biodiversity specialists are on hand throughout the week to identify your finds. Simply tag us on Instagram or Twitter and use #BackyardBioblitz and we’ll ID your photos. The Irish Peatland Conservation Council and the Biodiversity Week team of the Irish Environmental Network are on hand throughout the week to help! Scavenger Hunt Download our Scavenger Hunt sheets and take part in your local area! These sheets are designed for primary school age children, and encourage use of all the senses to complete the hunt. Post a photo of your completed hunt on Instagram or Twitter and you’ll be entered into a draw to win an identification swatch from the National Biodiversity Data Centre! Use #BioHunt to enter!
