  • Minister Buttimer addresses young people from around the country at the Aviva Stadium
  • Congratulates young people on innovative projects designed to create positive change in our communities

Jerry Buttimer, T.D, Minister of State for Community Development and Charities, today (30 April) opened the 2025 Young Social Innovators Awards at the Aviva Stadium, congratulating young people on the innovative projects they have worked on to create positive social change for the benefit of people, communities and the environment.

Opening the conference this morning, Minister Buttimer said:

“I want to congratulate today’s winners and all of the young change-makers who are making such a difference through Activate, Young Social Innovators’ flagship programme. I am delighted that my Department provides support and funding to the Young Social Innovators programme, as the work displayed here today is nothing short of inspiring. Our young innovators are not just dreaming about a better future, they are actively creating it.”

The Department of Rural and Community Development provides core funding to Young Social Innovators (YSI) to support its work to make the social innovation space accessible to all young people, create new future pathways and allow young people to have their voices heard.

The Government has also acknowledged the key role volunteering plays in fostering social cohesion and promoting civic responsibility, thereby contributing to community wellbeing and national social development.

The Young Social Innovators Awards is an annual event held by Young Social Innovators (YSI), Ireland’s largest social awareness and active citizenship programme for 12- to 18-year-olds.  The Awards ceremony is a national celebratory event, bringing young people from around the country together to present their innovative projects, share and learn from their peers, and be encouraged and supported in their work.

Speaking to young people at the conference, the Minister concluded:

“In closing, I want to leave you with a challenge: Go out into your communities and be the change you wish to see. Continue to use your voice, your skills and your passion to make a difference. The world is waiting for your ideas, your energy and your commitment to social innovation.

Thank you for your dedication, your enthusiasm and your willingness to step up and make a difference. Together, you have the power to create a brighter future for all. Well done everyone!”
