Fógraíonn an tAire Dara Calleary €828,000 le haghaidh oibreacha caipitil ar ár n-oileáin amach ón gcósta 

• Infheistíocht i dtionscadail bhonneagair ar oileáin amach ó chósta Dhún na nGall, Mhaigh Eo, na Gaillimhe agus Chorcaí

• Uasghráduithe ar bhóithre, céanna, cosaint chósta agus soilsiú sráide

D’fhógair an tAire Forbartha Tuaithe agus Pobail agus Gaeltachta, Dara Calleary, €828,000 inniu (Déardaoin , 19ú Meitheamh) le haghaidh oibreacha caipitil ar ár n-oileáin amach ón gcósta.

Feicfear uasghráduithe ar bhóithre, ar chéanna, ar chosaint cósta, ar shoilsiú sráide agus ar thionscadail bhonneagair eile mar chuid den infheistíocht.

Is iad na hoileáin a bhainfidh leas as an maoiniú ná:

  • Contae na Gaillimhe: Inis Mór, Inis Bó Finne agus an Cloigeann
  • Contae Dhún na nGall: Oileáin Bheaga agus Uaigh
  • Contae Mhaigh Eo: Cliara, Inis Toirc, Claínis, Inis Laidhre agus Rú an Átha
  • Contae Chorcaí: Béara agus Oileán Baoi

Ag labhairt inniu, dúirt an tAire Calleary:

“Tá áthas orm maoiniú €828,000 a fhógairt inniu chun tacú le seachadadh agus uasghrádú mórán tionscadal bonneagair ar ár n-oileáin amach ón gcósta.

“Is gealltanas lárnach faoinár mBeartas Oileán deich mbliana, ‘Ár nOileáin Bheo’, cumhachtú ár bpobail oileán trí infheistíocht a dhéanamh i mbonneagar.

“Ó ceapadh i m’Aire mé i mí Eanáir na bliana seo, tá tosaíocht tugtha agam do na hoileáin. Tá cuairt tugtha agam ar roinnt de na hoileáin cheana féin agus tá sé i gceist agam cuairt a thabhairt orthu ar fad i rith mo thréimhse mar Aire.

“Ó bhóithre agus céanna go cosaint cósta agus soilsiú sráide – tá na tionscadail seo ríthábhachtach chun feabhas a chur ar shaol an oileáin do dhaoine atá ina gcónaí ar ár n-oileáin agus do na turasóirí iomadúla a thagann ar cuairt.”

Minister Dara Calleary announces €828,000 for capital works on our offshore islands

  • Investment in infrastructure projects on islands off Donegal, Mayo, Galway and Cork
  • Upgrades to roads, piers, coastal protection and street lighting

Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, has today (Thursday, 19th June) announced €828,000 for capital works on our offshore islands.

The investment will see upgrades to roads, piers, coastal protection, street lighting and other infrastructure projects.

The islands that will benefit from the funding are:

  • County Galway: Inis Mór, Inisbofin and Cleggan
  • County Donegal: Oileáin Bheaga and Uaigh
  • County Mayo: Clare Island, Inisturk, Clynish, Inishlyre and Roonagh
  • County Cork: Bere Island and Dursey Island

Speaking today, Minister Calleary said:

“I’m delighted to announce funding today of €828,000 to support the delivery and upgrade of dozens of infrastructure projects on our offshore islands.

“Empowering our island communities by investing in infrastructure is a key commitment under our ten-year Islands Policy, ‘Our Living Islands’.

“Since my appointment as Minister in January of this year, I have made the islands a priority. I have already visited some of the islands and it is my intention to visit all of them during my tenure.

“From roads and piers to coastal protection and street lighting – these projects are vital in terms of enhancing the island life for people living on our islands and the many visiting tourists.”

The overall county allocations approved by Minister Calleary today are:

  • Donegal County Council:   €53,100
  • Mayo County Council:        €99,000
  • Galway County Council:     €154,180
  • Cork County Council:         €521,580

The funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht will cover up to 90% of the capital cost for these projects while the local authorities will provide the balance.
