Minister for Health Welcomes Launch of the 2026 National Screening Advisory Committee Call for Submissions
The Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, has today welcomed the National Screening Advisory Committee’s (NSAC) Call for Submissions for 2026.
The National Screening Advisory Committee (NSAC) is the independent expert group that advises the Minister for Health on the introduction of new population-based screening programmes, as well as proposed modifications to existing programmes.
The annual Call for Submissions provides an important opportunity for members of the public, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders to contribute to the future development of screening in Ireland. Submissions received through this process play a key role in informing the Committee’s work programme and priorities.
Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, said:
“NSAC’s 2026 Call for Submissions offers an important opportunity to help shape the future of screening in Ireland.
“Screening programmes are a vital part of preventative healthcare, helping to detect disease early and support faster, more effective treatment. Expanding and improving access to screening remains a priority for this Government as part of our commitment to better population health outcomes.
“Submissions made to NSAC have an important influence on screening policy in Ireland. For example, the recent additions of screening for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) both originated as submissions to NSAC.
“Therefore, I encourage individuals and organisations to contribute their insights by making a submission.”
The Chair of the NSAC, Dr Suzanne Crowe, said:
“I am delighted to see the launch of the 2026 Call for Submissions, which provides an important opportunity for people to have their voices heard in shaping the future of screening in Ireland.
“Input from the public, healthcare professionals, and organisations is central to the Committee’s work. By sharing ideas, evidence, and experiences, contributors play a valuable role in helping us to consider how screening programmes can continue to develop and improve.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in screening to take part in this process and submit their proposals before the closing date.”
The 2026 Call for Submissions will remain open for a 12-week period, closing at 5:00PM on Friday, 28 August 2026. Further information on the submission process is available at www.nsacommittee.gov.ie.
