We are delighted that the Department of Rural and Community Development is supporting Street Feast again this year. We would like to take the opportunity to reach out to you to give you more information on Street Feast and start the dialogue of how we can work with you to further your valuable work supporting communities and community groups in Cork
Here’s a little more detail for you on how it works:
Street Feast has been running for around 14 years. It is a not-for-profit, all-for-fun, al fresco get together with the people who live around you. It is very simple; quick to organise; and inexpensive, as everyone invited is encouraged to bring a dish. When an individual or group registers for Street Feast, we send out a Street Feast starter pack and/or give them access to a comprehensive, user-friendly set of online resources.
The pack is brilliant – it has posters, invites, flyers and 20m of bunting to decorate your gathering. Hosts are supported with email, video conferencing and phone support. They can join our Whatsapp communities to chat with other Street Feast hosts and get cool graphics to send out to the volunteers in their community on WhatsApp etc. We send out Newsletters, tips and reminders to facilitate and empower Street Feast hosts to run their own gathering in their community.

On 25th/26th May 2024, there will be over 1,000 Street Feasts taking place all over the country – it’s a great buzz! After the event, hosts in photos and videos, tag @streetfeast in social media posts etc, and fill in feedback about their event. We are very proud of our Street Feast hosts, who are the real power behind making each event unique to their community while being part of a bigger, national event.
As it is fun, inclusive and easy to organise, Street Feast attracts people to volunteer and take part who might normally be more reticent, which encourages a wider range of people in each neighbourhood to participate and help strengthen and enrich their community. As an al-fresco event, it brings people out who are still worried about socialising after Covid, helping combat loneliness and isolation.
The real magic happens after Street Feast – people are friendlier. feel safer and more connected in their neighbourhoods,(evidenced by our feedback surveys). It strengthens community groups and promotes their work in each neighbourhood. Our Street Feast hosts return year after year as it is such a popular and easy event.
